What is XLPE?

XLPE has another name cross-linked polyethylene，it has high temperaturer resistance, inhert the properties of polyethylene, and improves the mechanical properties. These properties broaden its main uses , and are widely used in industrial production, agriculture and daily life. Let's know about the application of XLPE in cables.

What is XLPE cable?

XLPE is used as insulation of cable and wire. The most important attribute of XLPE is the electrical properties it exhibits. A cable with XLPE insulation is able to carry large currents and high voltages. Therefore, XLPE cable have excellent electrical properties.

XLPE cable vs PVC cable difference

Types of XLPE insulation power cable is named XLPE cable(YJV), Types of PVC insulation power cable is named PVC cable(VV). XLPE cable(YJV cables) are commenly selected for long-term projects. PVC cable(VV cable) usually used low voltage system. XLPE cable(YJV cable) usually use high voltage system. XLPE cable(YJV cables) are better than PVC cable(VV cables) in terms of temperature resistance, voltage resistance and corrosion resistance. Due to the different materials, XLPE cable(YJV cable) and PVC cable(VV cable) allow different opetating temperature.

1 XLPE cable(YJV cable) is used the maximum conductor operating temperature 90 degree. During short circuit the maximum temperature of the cable conductor shall not above 250 degree.
2 PVC cable(VV cable) is used the maximum conductor operating temperature 70 degree. During short circuit the maximum temperature of the cable conductor shall not above 160 degree.
